Aluminum Oxide Precision Lapping Powder
Microgrit® WCA is an aluminum oxide powder developed and introduced by Micro Abrasives Corporation. It is characterized by platelet shaped particles, each particle being an individual crystallite.
The stringent grading and inspection techniques used at Micro Abrasives Corporation assure uniform size and quality of the particles.

Applications
Glass:
Precision optics, laser optics, ophthalmic, mirrors
Quartz:
Quartz windows, piezo-electric crystals
Semi-Conductor Materials:
Silicon, sapphire, gallium arsenide, cadmium telluride
Metals:
Precision lapping, debarring, polishing, etc.
Advantages
Crystal shape causes orientation parallel to the lap and work surface pressure is thereby distributed uniformly over a large part of the crystal surface resulting in a longer abrasive life cycle than with conventional abrasives.
Stock removal rates are higher because of the sliding action of the crystal, as opposed to the rolling motion of conventional abrasives.
Uniform size and quality of the particles prevent random scratching or damage to the workpiece.
Note
Because of the superior cutting rate of
MICROGRIT® WCA
, less powder needs to be used compared to conventional abrasives; as little as one half the amount is suggested as a starting point.
Standard suspension treatments are available to prevent hard packing of the abrasive. "I" treatment is designed for water based slurries and "TO" for oil slurries. Special suspension agents can be supplied when necessary.
